EVELYN CORRIS

-

MRS Evelyn Corris, of Oswaldtwistle, passed away in Hope House

Care Home, Clayton-leMoors on Monday, July 5, aged 100.

She was so proud of her 100th birthday card from the Queen.

Evelyn was one of four children - sisters Ellen and Lily and brother Joseph, and grew up in Oswaldtwistle where she stayed until moving into Hope House Care Home near her children in October 2019.

Evelyn left school at the age of 14 on a Friday and started work the following Monday at Stanhill Ring Spinning Factory, where she stayed until retirement.

She met Richard ‘Dick’ Corris, the love of her life, in her late teens and they eventually married while Dick was on leave from the RAF in 1944. Children Derek and Jean came along and they had a wonderful marriage and enjoyed life until Dick’s passing in 1989. After this Evelyn stayed strong with her family’s help and made many friends with whom she enjoyed outings and holidays and played bingo as much as possible. In her eighties she booked to go on holiday to Benidorm with friend Irene - not knowing which hotel they were staying at until they got there - it was cheaper!

Evelyn was a big

Rovers fan and received a special video message from the Rovers manager on her 100th birthday.

Evelyn was the loving wife of the late Richard ‘Dick’ Corris and a wonderful mum to Derek and Jean. She was also a much-loved Grandma to Sean, Peter, Ian and Sarah. A Great-Grandma to Leah, Jack, Ethan, Matthew, Dani, Adam and Emma, Great, Great-Grandma to Lily and Sophie, and motherin-law to Lynda and Jim.

Evelyn loved her family with whom she enjoyed many happy times both at home and on holiday, and kept her sense of humour to the end. She was feisty at times but always happy, funny and respectful. She was loved greatly.

A funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematorium for Evelyn on Friday, July 16, followed by cremation. Family flowers only please, however if desired, donations may be made to Cancer Research UK.

Funeral director: Wolstenholmes Funeral Service, Accrington.
