THIS week the law has changed which means mask wearing and social distancing are no longer safety measures enforceable by law.

The guidance however, which is in place to keep our community safe, has not changed.

The rates of infection in Hyndburn remain high and we still welcome wearing a mask and keeping distance from others in public indoor spaces and on public transport.

One of the best ways you can help stop transmission of the virus in Hyndburn is to continue to follow hands face space and if meeting others indoors let fresh air in.

Getting vaccinated and having a test regularly not only protects you it protects your friends and family. I am pleased to say over 80% of adults in Hyndburn have now had at least one dose of the vaccine.

If it has been eight weeks since your first vaccine you can now get your second from a walk-in centre or by booking online at nhs.uk or calling 119.

We have all been enjoying the warmer weather and it has been great to see our local outdoor spaces full of families getting fresh air and exercise.

Hyndburn Borough Council will be supporting the national ‘Love Parks’ campaign which encourages people to love, respect and protect our outdoor spaces.

Starting on Friday 23 rd July and running for 10 days, the campaign will be on our social media channels and you may also see new banners and signs at our local parks. We have fantastic outdoor spaces in our borough, including nature reserves, many walks and green flag parks.

Not only do we want to celebrate these fantastic green spaces, we want to encourage people to look after them.

As a vital lifeline to many people throughout lockdown green outdoor spaces are fantastic for both mental and physical wellbeing.

This means it is even more important that we work together to look after these spaces. We will be reminding people to not cause damage or disturb wildlife, keep dogs under control and use bins or take litter home. If we all follow these easy steps our parks will be a safe place for everyone to enjoy.
