Pye in the sky as Tom hits a maiden ton

-

SUNDAY, July 18, 2021 will live long in the memory of Tom Pye as he scored his maiden ton at a sun-drenched Great Harwood in an important run chase.

Promoted up the order in the absence of the suspended Matty Hernon, he took his chance with both hands. He stroked his way to an unbeaten 105 off 122 balls, which included 12 boundaries, as he shared a match winning partnership of 140 with Clinton Perren, who deserved a century himself before being bowled for an excellent 77 after coming to the wicket after his son was run out for 9 with the score on 34.

Littleborough found themselves in the field on a red hot day after skipper Townsend lost the toss on a day that was made for batting.

The skipper did not let his team-mates down as he opened the bowling instead of the absent Wilman and returned excellent figures of 5-77 off 15 overs as he was well backed up by Miskella, Perren and Unsworth.

Everything was going to plan and the innings should have been wrapped up when Reeza missed a simple catch with the score on 133/9 and boy did De Silva make them pay as he helped himself to a run a ball 135 which included 17 boundaries and 4 maximums as the innings closed on 209 all out in the 47th over.

Anyone who knows anything about cricket will tell you 200 is 200 on any ground and you will have to bat well to achieve your target. Pye in particular batted well as the visitors chased down 209 with 3 and half overs left. Take a bow, Tom Pye – a captain’s dream, turns up every week, never moans, just gets on with his cricket.

Next stop East Lancs at home as the Boys from the Boro continue their challenge for promotion.
