Stanley make it the best of three

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman believes his side still have much to improve despite claiming three victories in a row in League One.

The Reds responded to an opening day defeat at Wycombe Wanderers by beating Cambridge United and Doncaster Rovers to make it six points from six at home in the league this season.

And Coleman’s side then made it three victories in a row with a 1-0 triumph at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

Former Alex defender Michael Nottingham scored his first league goal of the season as Stanley celebrated a second successive 1-0 win.

However, manager Coleman believes his side still have much to improve on despite their strong start in League One, citing their tendency to slow down in the second half of matches so far this season. Speaking to the club’s official website following the win at Crewe, Coleman said: “We are hitting maximum peak, but for only 10 or 15 minutes of the game, and we have got to have longer spells.

“And we have got to stop idling in the second half – that is the third game in a row now we have idled in the second half and let teams come onto us.

“When we have pushed them back and made chances galore in the first half of all games we didn’t make as many chances in the second half and that is going to have to be something we will address.

“We will address that in the training ground.

“I would like to say in the analytical studio if we had one but I am not a Premier League manager!

“But we will do it with a video and a TV somewhere.”

Stadium, Coleman says he would have liked to have seen his side create more chances, and thus ease the pressure on his defenders at the other end.

“I just think we could make it easier for ourselves,” he said. “We had total domination in the first half an hour, we let them come into the game for five minutes in the first half and we have got this mode that we get into where we don’t make chances. And because we keep them at arm’s length and they don’t have any chances we seem happy with that but that is not the way to do it because eventually the home team will get a head of steam up – and they did.

“They made a couple of great chances and our goalkeeper has made a couple of great saves and we have made a couple of blocks. But we should be going up the other end and creating chances.”
