JANET LANG

-

IN loving memory of wife, sister, mother and grandmother Janet Lang, who passed peacefully away on Saturday, January 8 at the age of 84, at Moorhead Rest Home, Accrington.

Janet leaves behind her devoted husband of 60 years, Derek, her two daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth, son-in-law Lee, five grandchildren, Geneva, Oscar, Zara, Yolanda and Finlay, and brother and sister-in-law, John and Lynn.

Born in Accrington on December 18, 1937, Janet was a keen swimmer and member of the Accrington Swimming Club in her youth. She met musician Derek in her early 20s and they married in 1961.

During the early years of their marriage Janet worked in a bank, and the couple moved around the north west of England following Derek’s career in the dance bands of the time. After the birth of their two children, Sarah and Elizabeth, Janet retrained to become a teacher, and after various shorter teaching posts, worked at Hollins High School, where she taught children with special needs up until her retirement.

Janet had many interests and loved to travel. She and Derek spent many summers touring France in their caravan. They also spent time in Canada, India and Finland, as well as favourite spots closer to home, such as the Cotswolds, Oxford and Cornwall. Janet and her daughters were heavily involved in the Carlotta dance school, driving to and from lessons, as well as travelling up and down the country to the many dance festivals. Later, she and a group of other mums founded the Hyndburn Dance Festival, which was held for many years at Oswaldtwistle Town Hall.

In later life, Janet was also an active member of the Soroptimist Club in Accrington, a worldwide volunteer organization for women who work for peace, serving as president of the Accrington Club as well as secretary for many years afterwards. Janet will be sadly missed by her loving family and many friends.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Friday, January 28 at 1pm. Family flowers only, or if desired, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society and Macular Degeneration Society c/o funeral director Champ Funeral Services, Clayton-le-Moors.
