WILLIAM JONES

-

WITH deep sadness, the family of William ‘Bill’ Jones, of Oswaldtwistle, announce his death at the age of 87, on Wednesday, January 12, at home with his loving family by his side.

Bill was a loving husband to Margaret for 57 years.

He was a devoted, loving father to Stephanie and Damian, father-inlaw to Clive, wonderful Grandpa to Sarah and Amelia, brother to Sheila and Celia, brother-in-law to Fran and the late Alan, and uncle to nieces and nephews.

He began his working life at John Riley & Son, Hapton and then moved to William Blythe & Company Ltd at Church, Accrington. He remained at William Blythe until his retirement, with only a two-year break to do his national service in the Lancashire Fusiliers.

He was a member of the Lancashire Fusiliers Association - Trieste branch.

He was an avid reader, loved painting, particularly watercolours, photography, doing all kinds of crosswords, and DIY. Amongst all his other hobbies, once retired he became keenly interested in genealogy. He also loved travelling, motoring holidays in Europe and spending time with his family. In his earlier years he devoted much of his time to the church of St John’s Padiham and latterly to St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.

The family would like to thank Peel House Medical Practice and the district nurses for their care.

His Requiem will be held at St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle on Tuesday, January 25, at 10am, followed by burial at Accrington Cemetery.

Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
