ACCRINGTON’S own professional guitarist Scott Robertson is returning home to play a series of free concerts thanks to funding from Lancashire County Council and Arts Council National Lottery.

The new project “The Song of The Guitar” encourages people to pick up an instrument and have a go.

There will be five performances and workshops throughout the year in Lancashire libraries – including in Accrington and Great Harwood.

Scott, who was brought up in Accrington and studied music at Accrington College – has gone on to become one of the UK’s finest guitarists, headlining the Manchester Spanish Festival and playing at

The Royal Albert Hall in London.

He is keen to inspire people to pick up and play.

“The world of classical music can seem a bit overwhelming,” said Scott.

“Coming from the North West, I’ve had to fight through a lot of barriers to be accepted in the guitar world. I want to break these barriers down.

“The guitar is such an accessible instrument and I’d like to encourage everyone to pick up and play!

“My first guitar cost just £40, and in the sessions, I’ll be chatting about the help available for people to buy their own instruments.”

The first performance of “The Song of The Guitar” will be at Accrington Library on Valentine’s evening at 7pm. It promises a musical journey from Bach to The Beatles. FREE tickets are available from Accrington Library or on eventbrite.co.uk

There are limited tickets, so book early. Scott’s album ‘In Love...with Scott Robertson’ is available now on iTunes and Spotify.
