JOHN HARTLEY

-

MR John Bryan Hartley, of Pendle Road, Great Harwood, passed away peacefully at home, on Saturday, February 12, aged 87.

At the early age of 15, John started out as a plumber before attending college in Crewe to learn teaching. In 1960 he became a teacher at Norden High School, Rishton, where he worked his way up the ladder, by not only becoming a well-respected teacher but also the Head of Tech, overseeing the metal and woodwork departments.

Here he would stay up until taking his retirement in 1992.

In his spare time and during his retirement he greatly enjoyed going away on holiday, especially in the caravan at Anglesey, as well as a little further afield cruising, visiting countries including Egypt, Brazil and Rhodes. Back home he enjoyed spending time with his loving family, doing various craft work projects and also line dancing. He was also a member of the former St John’s Church and also St Bartholomew’s.

A dearly loved husband of Pauline, a much loved father of Andrew, Nichola and Deborah, a treasured grandad of Joshua, James, Samuel, Rhys, Oliver and Toby, and a loving great-grandad of Natasha, Gabriella, Eleesha, Charlotte and Rebecka.

He will be very sadly missed but fondly remembered by all his loving family, friends and former pupils and work colleagues.

His funeral service will take place at 11am on Thursday, February 24, at Accrington Crematorium.

Family flowers only please, but donations received in memory of John for the North West Air Ambulance can be made by phone, by post, or by envelope drop off at the funeral home.
