ELLEN PARKINS

-

PEACEFULLY on Tuesday, February 8 at Royal Blackburn Hospital with her son and his partner by her side, Ellen, aged 91, of Clayton-le-Moors.

Devoted mum to Philip, much loved sister and sister-in-law to Lewis and Una, cherished aunty to Angela.

Ellen was born in Church to parents George and Rebecca Parkins and moved to Clayton-le-Moors at the age of 13, where she lived for the rest of her life.

On leaving school at 14, she went to work in a mill in Great Harwood, walking there and back every day.

Once old enough Ellen got a second job working behind the bar at The Derby in Accrington.

She worked hard to enable herself to buy her own home and travel the world, including her beloved Italy, especially Venice, that she used to talk of lots.

When her son Philip was born in 1969 Ellen stopped working, but only briefly.

When he was younger she cleaned at the middle club.

Then, once Philip went to school, she got a full time job at Hyndburn Borough Council, where she remained until her retirement aged 70.

After retirement Ellen then returned to her love of travel.

She had memorable trips to Portugal and all around the UK, accompanied by her many friends. Ellen will be sadly missed by all who knew her; she was a friend to all.

Ellen’s funeral will take place on Tuesday, February 22, with a service at All Saints Church, Clayton-le-Moors at 10.45am, prior to committal at Accrington Crematorium at 11.40am.

Family flowers only please; donations may be made, in memory of Ellen, to RNLI c/o champfunerals.com/ obituaries
