KENNETH SMITH

-

PEACEFULLY on Monday, February 7, in hospital with his family at his side, Ken, aged 93, of Accrington.

The devoted and loved husband of the late Marian, much loved dad of Gary and David, dear father-in-law of Angela and Philippa, cherished grandad of Mark and Jenna and great-grandad of Lucas and Freya.

Born in Bispham, Ken moved to Accrington aged eight years old with his family. He was always a bright and intelligent child, and was able to absorb everything he was taught. He attended Peel Park School and later gained entry to Accrington Grammar School.

At the age of 18, Ken was signed up to complete his National Service and was posted to Northern Germany. He always remained proud of service for his country and often reminisced of this time.

He was a well known face in the Springhill area of Accrington from his days at the Newsagent on Edleston Street, which he ran alongside his beloved wife Marian.

Ken loved to dance and loved nothing more than stepping out onto the dance floor with Marian.

Together Ken and Marian enjoyed socialising and could often be found out enjoying a drink whilst catching up with their many friends.

Ken loved to potter and could spend many happy hours tinkering away in his garage making and mending things.

He also enjoyed golf and walking, and he was a former member of the Accrington Male Voice Choir.

Ken was a true gentleman, and he will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Ken’s funeral took place at Accrington Crematorium.

Donations are being received in memory of Ken on behalf of Rett UK c/o funeral director Champ Funeral Services, Clayton-leMoors.
