Crew wanted for slow boat to canal world
SUPER Slow Way are asking for volunteer crew members for the narrowboat the RV Furor Scribendi.
It is an opportunity for people with a wide range of life skills and for those who are interested in the canal world. No experience in narrowboating experience is needed and beginners are all welcome.
The Super Slow Way is the 20-mile stretch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal via Hyndburn between Blackburn and Pendle.
They are offering a two-day helmswoman/ man training course and one-day librarian/host/ creative training day to become part of their crew for 2022. You can also borrow as many short stories as you can read and the reading/writing room is available out of hours.
Email info@ smallbellsring.co.uk or DM/voice message @ smallbellsring on Instagram. The closing date for applications is Thursday, March 10.
Over the next six months, a series of projects and events will give residents living along the canal the opportunity to get involved, try something new and think about how the canal, and the many unused spaces alongside it, could become a great space for us all to use and share.
Organisers are looking for ideas that could happen around the canal and be a part of its future and have between £250 and £1,500 available for projects.
The Pennine Lancashire Linear Park pilot project is funded by the UK Government via the UK Community Renewal Fund.
In a statement, the Super Slow Way said: “We are interested in imaginative ideas that will bring people together.
“This could be anything from a picnic to a performance or an art installation, something that is temporary.
The Super Slow Way work with the Canal & River Trust, so if you wanted to do something along the canal like
painting or planting trees, we can help make that happen.
“Just email or call us.
We want to know who you are, where you live and what you want to do.”
To apply, you must live
or work near the canal from Blackburn to Pendle and have something you can do before June. Ideas
and questions can be sent in to Sam@ SuperSlowWay.org.uk by Monday, March 14.
