Fans go ‘crazy’ over Claudia’s star tribute
ASINGER says the reaction has been “crazy” after wowing fans with her appearance on ITV hit Starstruck.
Claudia Thompson, from Accrington, appeared as a tribute act to Billie Eilish in the prime time Saturday night talent show.
The episode saw scenes filmed on the town’s Warner Street where Claudia works at the Illusion salon, before the former Accrington Academy student stunned judges with her versions of the popstar’s hits No Time to Die and Everything I Wanted.
Claudia was among a trio of Billie Eilish acts that defeated three other groups, but sadly missed out on a place in the final when a fellow Billie was chosen to progress.
The 20-year-old said she had already gained at least
100 new followers on her social media channels, plus loads more online views of her music.
“Social media has been crazy with new likes, messages and followers,” she said. “It’s been a really big boost. I originally filmed the show in April last year, so it’s been a hard secret to keep!
“I was on Team Billie and we got through to the sing off after we were up against
Elton John, Kylie Minogue, John Legend - and they’re all massive artists. Two of us were the youngest in the whole competition, so to beat them and get to the sing-off was insane. I don’t think I would have been transformed into Billy Eilish without being part of a team. We forgot it was a competition!”
Every week, the series sees four teams of three battle it out to win the vote of the expert judging panel and virtual audience for a place in the final. Only one act from the winning trio can make it to the final to be in with the chance of winning £50,000. It is hosted by Olly Murs with a judging panel of award winning singer and actress Sheridan Smith, Queen frontman Adam Lambert, comedian Jason Manford and musical theatre star Beverley Knight.
Claudia admitted she was amazed by her makeover into the Californian artist, adding: “She’s got this iconic look. Getting the green and blue hair, I’ve always really been blonde, and completely transforming my look was crazy! I ended up walking around stage in a tracksuit. I was out of my comfort zone and it’s made me try things I wouldn’t do before.”
