Mayor’s column

-

FIRSTLY, I would like to thank everyone who attended the Mayor’s ball last week and a special thank you goes to all those who helped to organise it.

The event was a huge success, with thousands being raised for charities in urgent need and it was wonderful to see so many people from across our Hyndburn community enjoying themselves in the magnificent Town Hall Ballroom.

Being Mayor of Hyndburn has been an honour.

Throughout the year I have had the privilege of being invited to community events and activities across the towns and met with hundreds of people who are helping our borough every day.

It has been a very difficult couple of years for Hyndburn and I am pleased to say that the strength of our community has shone through at all times.

We have worked together to tackle a global pandemic, helped people displaced from Afghanistan during the war and now we are sending aid to those suffering in Ukraine.

We also have many things to look forward to that we can enjoy together.

I am especially looking forward to the HRH The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations this June where our town will be alive with street parties and events will include a free bus, taking people to parks for a special beacon trail.

Please continue to look after each other; covid restrictions may have now eased, but we are still being urged to act cautiously by staying at home if we feel unwell and encouraged to open windows when meeting others indoors.

To all of Hyndburn, I wish you happiness and health for the year ahead, thank you for supporting me in my year as Mayor.
