HYNDBURN ACADEMY

-

STUDENTS and staff at The Hyndburn Academy put on a series of “electric” performances of Peter Pan across three sold-out nights.

For the first time since the pandemic, the Rishton school welcomed a full house of family, friends and staff to watch the special trio of performances.

With auditions for the show taking place back in September, cast members were itching to take to the stage after many months perfecting their roles.

Auditions were open to all year groups, which resulted in a fantastic opportunity for students of different ages to show off their talents in one ensemble performance.

The lead roles of Peter Pan and Wendy were played by Lily Tattersall and Holly Beaghan respectively, with Molly Mae Proctor and Ruby Gainford taking on the famous character of Captain Hook.

Behind the scenes, students also worked hard to make the show a success.

They created many of the props during art enrichment classes, with larger props generously provided by a parent and local business owner Andrew Fielding of Fielding Fabrications.

Subhan, a Year 8 student at The Hyndburn Academy, who played the role of Noodler, said: “This is my first time in a school show, and I’ve really enjoyed it.

“It’s super exciting to perform in front of so many people and it has been a great way to make new friends.”

Performing Arts Lead Katie Allcott said: “After two years of waiting, it has been a pleasure to see our talented students rise to the occasion again.

“A massive thank you and congratulations to all that have made this possible – I am bursting with pride!”

Headteacher Nicola Palmer said: “It has been fantastic to welcome back families and friends of the school for this full-scale performance to share the achievements and hard work of our wonderful cast and crew.

“They have been working tirelessly to perfect the show, supported by our excellent performing arts department, and the reaction from the audience was electric.

“Collaboration is essential to the successful production of any show – I’m so proud of how students have worked together to create a spectacular performance.

“Their ambition and commitment certainly make them role models for students throughout our school and will inspire those looking forward to next year’s production already.”
