Double award delight for furniture manufacturer

-

AFURNITURE manufacturer went head to head with some of the best businesses in Lancashire and won two awards.

Accrington-based The Senator Group has been announced as the winner of the ‘Environmental, Social and Governance’ and ‘Export’ categories at the Red Rose Awards.

The winners were announced at the prestigious ceremony at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool on March 14.

Robert Mustoe, managing director of The Senator Group said: “As a business, we don’t set out to win awards, but I am proud that the hard work and dedication of our people have been externally recognised in this way.

“At The Senator Group, we have fostered a culture of ambition, but also care, and these accolades are testament to that.

“I want to thank everyone who has had a hand in the achievements that have earned us the title of winner in the Export and ESG categories, at this year’s Red Rose Awards.”

The Red Rose Awards is Lancashire’s biggest and most recognisable business event, run by Lancashire Business View, with the aim of identifying and recognising the ‘heroes of the Lancashire economy.’

The Senator Group had to demonstrate to an independent judging panel that it was a stand-out business in the relevant field to be considered a winner.

The company’s story began in 1976 when its chairman, Colin Mustoe, began designing and manufacturing office furniture.

All these years on and although it has grown into one of the largest commercial furniture manufacturers in the world, it remains an independent, family-owned business.

The company designs, engineers, manufactures, and installs products within the workplace, hospitality, healthcare, and education markets.

From its seven sites around Lancashire, it has the capacity to make more than 34,000 items per week.

The company has control of the full end-to-end process from producing its own steelwork, to owning its own logistics and even has its own recycling facility.

The Senator Group has manufacturing sites and showrooms in six continents, delivers to 165 countries, and employs more than 1,400 people.

Long-term objectives include a Pledge to Net Zero by 2040.

Last year it planted 15,000 trees on land owned by the Mustoe family, installed three beehives at its site in Accrington, and trained a dozen of its own people to be beekeepers.

Through its charity committee, it raised or donated more than £155,000 for charitable organisations.
