Disco night raises £4k in memory of DJ Bob
A DISCO charity night was held in memory of a loving father-of-two and husband.
The family of Bob “Rupindar” Singh Thind, who was a DJ from Baxenden, held a disco evening to raise money for three charities: Milly’s Smiles, East Lancashire Hospice and Ynot Aspire.
His wife Charlotte and children Grace and Oliver organised the event for Bob’s first heavenly birthday since his sudden passing last year at the age of 53.
Around 225 people filled Coley’s Bar at Accrington Stanley, which was kindly donated for free hire, on April
20. Approximately £4,000 was raised on the night.
Following Bob’s tragic passing, his family set up ‘Brave4Bob’ to keep his memory alive and to make a positive impact on other people’s lives.
Brave4Bob can be found on Instagram and Facebook where people are encouraged to do challenges and participants can share and celebrate their goals and accomplishments.
In total, his family have raised more than £7,000 from previous challenges and the Brave4Bob clothing.
All 500 raffle tickets were sold and five prizes were auctioned off:
1. Bob’s Jack Daniels collection: two limited edition bottles and a sign.
2. Sporting memorabilia (one of Bob’s signed Blackburn Rovers shirt, a signed Accrington Stanley shirt and signed Jay Rodriguez football boots).
3. The Dunkenhalgh’s spa day access and treatments for two people.
4. Carmel Racecourse day Paddock access for two people.
5. Timco tools and builder’s hardware bundle worth more than £500
All of the above prizes were bought by bidders for between £100 and £450.
There were more than 65 additional raffle prizes up for grabs.
Food was put on by Cheek and Tongue event catering services who kindly donated £100 of their earnings from the night to the Charity Foundation page.
All of Bob’s favourite tunes were played by his good friend and fellow DJ Carl Leeming which went down a hit with the attendees.
Bob’s daughter, Grace, said: “It was an amazing night and great to see so many of our amazing friends and people that knew Dad there.
“Though he was incredibly missed, and it was a hard watch when a tribute video was played of him, it just summarised the incredible life he led, things he accomplished and admiration given to him by everyone.
“The love in the room was clearly apparent.
“We would like to thank anyone and everyone that’s got involved, shown love, supported the Foundation or us as a grieving family this last year, we cannot thank you enough.
“There’s so much more to come! “Thank you, keep being Brave4Bob.” The charity page will close on May 28 and the money raised will be distributed evenly amongst the three charities the family support. After this they will begin a new page and support new charities with new challenges. Bob’s family say they are happy to consider ideas.
