Eskom in Talks over Sup­plies from Op­ti­mum Coal Mine

South Africa’s state-run power util­ity Eskom said in a re­cent state­ment that it was in talks with the busi­ness res­cue prac­ti­tion­ers work­ing to save the Op­ti­mum coal mine and was con­sid­er­ing a pro­posal to re­duce the vol­umes of coal it takes from the mine.

“Eskom is cur­rently con­sid­er­ing the busi­ness res­cue prac­ti­tion­ers’ pro­posal to re­duce the monthly coal sup­ply ton­nage from 400,000 to 200,000 tonnes for the re­main­der of the con­tract pe­riod given the pre­car­i­ous fi­nan­cial po­si­tion of Op­ti­mum coal mine,” Eskom said.
