Profile of Dr. Clifford Abdallah Braimah

Ing. Dr. Clifford A. Braimah serves as the esteemed Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited (GWL). A distinguished member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering and the International Water Association, Dr. Braimah is renowned for his expertise in water management and engineering, demonstrated through his prolific contributions to numerous peer-reviewed journal articles in the field.

Dr. Braimah’s academic journey includes earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Resources Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. Furthering his academic pursuits, he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in Water Management from Cranfield University, UK.

Appointed by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Braimah assumed the role of Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited in March 2017. Under his astute leadership, the company has witnessed remarkable growth and performance enhancements, notably through a collaborative effort with the government of Ghana and the World Bank. This partnership has resulted in a significant increase in GWL’S revenue, showcasing the efficacy of their long-term performance improvement programme.

Dr. Braimah’s influence extends beyond Ghana’s borders, with Ghana Water Limited serving as a mentor to utilities in other countries. Notable examples include the Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC) in Sierra Leone and the Gambian National Water & Electricity Company (NAWEC). Through these mentorship initiatives, GWL shares its wealth of knowledge and best practices, fostering sustainable development and enhancing water management practices globally.

Acknowledged for his outstanding leadership, Dr. Braimah has received numerous prestigious awards and accolades. These include being recognised as the “Best CEO in the Utility Sector for the year 2018” by the Ghana Industry and Humanity Magazine International and receiving the “Innovation in Finance & Partnerships” award at the 2019 WEX GLOBAL Awards/conference. Additionally, he has been honoured as “Ghana’s Most

Respected CEO in the Utility Sector” and “Outstanding Utility CEO of The Year” for his innovative approach to work and exemplary contributions to the water sector.
