I would sug­gest that you ask your friend to undo the mount top clamp screws and lift off the scope, then slide one mount so that it sits against the other, then tighten the base clamp, so that he can see the mis­align­ment for him­self. Even if he’s too stub­born to ad­mit he was wrong, he might as well re­verse one of the mounts now the scope’s off!
