WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR
I’m a self-confessed technology nut and I love gadgets and gizmos that make shooting more enjoyable. However, they have to work and be better then what came before, or I’m not interested. Over the years, I’ve bought my fair share of junk and because of that I’ve become a little wiser, I hope. In this month’s issue we have one of the best innovations I’ve seen for a while in the form of the Nite-Site Mountable Rangefinder. Rangefinding at night is always tricky, and almost impossible through a night-vision scope so, for me, this superb device is at least truly groundbreaking. It’s small and light so no burden to carry, and works like a dream.
Another highly innovative product is FX Airguns’ Impact, which is an extraordinary tour de force in airgun design and engineering. I’ve only had it for a few days, so this month I’m giving an introduction and I’ll bring you my full report next time.
The third product that caught my eye was a clever little knife that means you’ll never need a sharpening stone again. Knife sharpening is difficult and boring, so the Havalon Piranta has disposable blades that you simply replace as they dull and you can easily carry a spare in the pouch, so you never need fight a blunt knife.
As much as we might like to deny it, we all love a new toy, and if it makes our day in the field even a little bit better then it’s money well spent. When I look back at the guns, scopes, boots and clothing I owned when I started shooting, it’s clear to see that we’ve moved on a very long way. We’re now warm and dry whilst hitting our target more often.
Perhaps the biggest step of the month though, is the Gamo Phox rifle package that gives you everything you need to start shooting a pre-charged pneumatic rifle, for under £500, which is extraordinary. Please don’t assume that the rifle is compromised in any way; it is not. These are great days to be an airgunner indeed.
The Gamo Phox is incredible value and a great performer to boot
