Think a rucksack’s just a backpack? Cannae aims to change your mind

The Legion Tactical Day Pack from Cannae sounds as impressive as it is

The Cannae brand may be new to most of our readers, but we think this high-specification outfit from the U.S., distributed over here by Scott Country International, is going to become a major player in U.K. shooting. If thoroughly researched, totally tested performance features grab your interest, then the Legion Tactical Day Pack we brought back from the Northern Shooting Show is sure to be worth studying. We thought so, and here’s what we found out about this truly remarkable product.

Combat heritage

Cannae Vice-President, Tor Anderson, took us through the main features of the Legion Day Pack, and such was the range and development of them, he was still explaining over an hour later. Tor is ex-special forces and his Cannae development team has a strong military background where only the very best will do, so listening to the evolution of what most would consider to be a simple backpack was truly fascinating stuff. Equally intriguing, was the fact that something created from the experience of frontline combat, is also at home in the airgun hunting field, or as an everyday accessory.

Main features

The 21 litre capacity Legion Day Pack is built – and built is the right term – around a supertough 500D Cordura nylon shell, and an array of 12 compartments and straps secured by Duraflex buckles and specially commissioned YKK zippers, plus four, heavy-duty D-Ring exterior attachment points, and 54 mil-spec MOLLE attachment points. A thick, rubberised Easy Grab top handle is designed to cope with any amount of load, and each zipper tab is fitted with Super-Grip pulls for fumble-free operation.

The pack’s back pad has moulded grooves for maximum air-flow, which keeps the wearer cool during extended use, without compromising on comfort. This ‘no compromise’ brief is perhaps the main feature of the Cannae philosophy.

Interior developments

Inside the Day Pack, you’ll find a fullypadded, 15-inch lap-top compartment, a protected, sunglasses pouch, plus pockets for whatever accessories you need, including a 2-litre hydration bladder. The interior lining has been designed to work with Velcro pouches and the main compartment zipper offers single-pull, quick access to the Day Pack’s contents.

Other features

The small features so often define the true quality of a product, and the Combat Day Pack is packed with them. Each exterior zip is protected and there are drainage vents at the base of the side pockets and main compartment. The tag ends of the adjustment straps carry Velcro tabs to stop them flapping around, and there’s a neat little port for your earphone, plus, should you decide you don’t need the waistband, this tucks away neatly and can’t snag on undergrowth and the like.

Every feature, fixture and fitting of this product has been designed and tested by experts who will not tolerate second-best. This is a genuinely impressive piece of kit, it carries a lifetime warranty – and there’s much, much more on its way from the Cannae team.
