This feature is responsible for creating secure contact between the stock and the shooter’s shoulder. Many butt pads can be adjusted, usually up and down, to better align the shooter’s eye with the scope, which in turn has a beneficial effect on the overall stance and balance during shooting. It’s definitely worth retro- fitting an adjustable butt pad if your rifle doesn’t have one, then experimenting with its position until you reach optimum alignment. Some stances may also require an different butt pad position.
