Drunken abuse puts ex-soldier in the dock
An ex-soldier who behaved in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm has been placed under supervision.
James Hartness, 45, shouted and swore towards cops during an incident in Dundyvan Road, Coatbridge, last June.
He admitted his guilt a day later and sentence was deferred for reports.
Hartness, of Tulloch Road in Perth, was back to face the music at Airdrie Sheriff Court last Wednesday and the procurator fiscal described Hartness’ actions on the day of the offence:“The accused phoned the police requesting help and they attended around 7.50pm.
“They found him lying on a public footpath intoxicated. He became aggressive and hostile and jumped to his feet and began swinging his arms about.
“The accused began shouting‘I’ll f****** crack you’and‘f*** off’.
“He was then arrested and taken to Coatbridge police office.”
Hartness’defence solicitor Darran Khorasani highlighted his client’s history in the armed forces:“It’s always unfortunate when individuals return from serving their country with problems.
“Things have settled down and he has reduced his alcohol consumption.
“He is consulting with the SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) charity for armed services’personnel.”
Sheriff Morag Galbraith then issued Hartness with the following warning:“Your record is accumulating. I will impose a community payback order with 12 months’supervision – and you have to co-operate fully.”
