Threat to kill and chop up his partner

‘Final chance’to avoid jail

- Court reporter

A crazed Thrashbush man who threatened to kill his partner and “chop” her up has been given a “final chance” to avoid jail.

John Logue, 31, placed the stricken woman in a state of fear and alarm with his shocking behaviour at a house on Albion Street in Coatbridge.

He repeatedly shouted and swore during the May 30 tirade and his callous words were heard by police on the phone.

Logue, of Thrashbush Quadrant, admitted his guilt and was back at Airdrie Sheriff Court last Wednesday for sentencing.

The procurator fiscal told the court: “At the time, the complainer had been in a relationship with the accused for a number of years.

“It was 6.17pm when the accused began to shout and swear. She walked away and was then followed by the accused.

“She closed the door and the accused was outside. The complainer called 999 for assistance.

“The accused again shouted and swore, saying ‘I’m going to f****** kill you’, ‘ I will chop you up’, ‘ f*** you’ and ‘you’re going to regret it’.

“This was all caught on the 999 call.”

Mitigating on his client’s behalf, defence solicitor Paul Nicolson said: “Drink has always been a major factor, as it was here.

“He had taken voluntary steps to have his addiction problem dealt with.

“He is in a close relationship with the complainer. She didn’t want him to be prosecuted but he accepts his guilt.

“On e thing t hat motivates him is saving this relationship. He is willing to do whatever it takes.”

Logue narrowly avoided prison time, with Sheriff Morag Galbraith telling him: “On a margin, I am prepared to give you the opportunity of a community payback order with two years’ supervision and you will also follow advice on counselling relating to alcohol.

“This is your final chance. If it [the order] is breached I will send you to jail.”
