Workmen’s B are still at the summit

But Carsons fighting for title

- Colin Paterson

With only two rounds remaining in the Airdrie and District Darts League, Workmen’s B continue to top the table.

But it is only a matter of time before Carsons Bar pounce by taking points from their two games in hand.

All Workies B can do is go through the motions of winning and hope for a miracle elsewhere

There was little resistance on derby night as Workmen’s A were on the wrong end of a 10-2 scoreline.

Scott Gibb and Stevie Carson led the way with 18- darters while Stuart Ferguson took a dart more.

Robert McFadyean was best for the ‘A’ lads with an 18-darter.

Carsons continue to rack up the wins but opponents Albert Bar put up a decent fight.

A special mention for John Davidson who hit an 18-darter and had a maximum 180.

But the Coatbridge side were too strong. Ernie Brown had 17 and 20-dart wins while Lee Barber was on the mark with an 18-darter.

The Player of the Week award went to Jim McGeary who was victorious in 16 darts. Derek Cunningham was back in better form with a 180 and an 18-darter.

At the Banks’ Club, visitors Eagle Inn will have been disappointed only to get a share of the spoils.

There were maximums for Ally Kennedy and Craig McKinnon; Tommy Slavin had a 20-darter.

But the rest of the Eagle boys failed to produce their best and the Bankies salvaged a draw.

The Forge were 8-4 winners over The Boar’s Head.

Gavin Crawley hit an 18-darter with a 180 while Ricky Grant also had an 18-dart success.

Wilson Arms just failed to take something from their home match with The Clansman.

Joe Stanfield was their best player on the night, with a 98 checkout.

Two 19- darters for Davie Noon set the The Lounge up nicely but Ian Weir’s 20-dart win and a Terry McPake 180 helped The Swan to victory.

It is Grand Finals Night this Monday with the six, four and three-man team competitions to be decided.

Sam Bremner faces Lee Barber in the Derek Cunningham Youth Development final while Jacqui Shaw takes on Laura Pearson in the final of the ladies’ event.

Singles and doubles titles are also up for grabs. Workmen’s A 2 , Workmen’s B 10; Banks’Social Club 6, Eagle Inn 6; Carsons Bar 8, Albert Bar 4; The Forge 8, The Boar’s Head 4; Wilson Arms 5, The Clansman 7 ; The Lounge 5, The Swan 7
