Maggie’s takes the biscuit with challenge
£50k match funding
Supporters of Maggie’s Lanarkshire have a renewed appetite for fundraising thanks to a generous donation offer.
Lanarkshire bakery firm Tunnock’s has pledged to matchfund all donations made to the Airdrie cancer caring centre during the spring season – up to a total of £50,000.
Managing director Boyd Tunnock CBE visited the centre, at Monklands Hospital, to launch the Thomas Tunnock matchgiving challenge, named after his grandfather who founded the company.
He said: “We are delighted to be supporting the amazing work that Maggie’s Lanarkshire is doing; I’m looking forward to seeing how people respond to the challenge and helping the centre continue to support people with cancer and their family and friends.”
The challenge received its first donation at the launch event, as members of the centre’s prostate cancer support group dug deep and raised the opening £330 of the £50,000 total.
Centre head Lorrie Forsyth said: “This is such a wonderful pledge, doubling every penny we receive in donations and making every gift we receive go twice as far – being able to make the most of the Thomas Tunnock challenge would be the best possible start to our year.”
Maggie’s Lanarkshire fundraiser Marion Pirrie told the Advertiser: “The challenge started last week and we’re approaching major donors; we know we can do it and we’re confident of being able to reach the target.”
