Magical moment that I’ll never forget

I never thought I’d live to see the day that Sir Elton John would perform in Airdrie but last Saturday night the impossible became a reality. I only had to walk 20 minutes from my front door and stroll into the Excelsior Stadium to see one of music’s biggest ever superstars in the flesh.

It was a surreal – and magical – moment and from the second he stepped on to the stage he had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

I actually saw the great man in concert about 10 years ago in Manchester but this show was even better – and not just because it was in my home town.

Sir Elton was superb and sounded better than ever.

Almost as memorable, though, was the reaction of the crowd. It’s a long time since I’ve seen so many smiles on so many faces.

People were singing and dancing along and seemed determined to have a great time.

It’s a night I will never forget and I’m sure the thousands in attendance will agree.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could get some other top musical names along to perform in Airdrie? If last Saturday is anything to go by they’d be sure to get a very warm welcome and a raucous reception.
