Fulsome praise for driven, kind-hearted bus driver Andy’s double award success

Congratulations were in order for beloved Airdrie bus driver Andy Marsden after he was named his company’s best driver twice in the space of a few months.

Andy, who works on the McGill’s 287 service, makes it his personal mission to make sure passengers leave the bus with a smile on their face and was judged on his appearance, attendance, accidents, compliments and mystery passenger reports.

Heather Davies was chuffed for Andy: “My family love him when they get on his bus. He waits until we are all seated before moving the bus.”

Gail Hayat has the pleasure of benefiting from Andy’s great nature: “A nicer man you couldn’t meet.

“He’s a pure gentleman who is always cheery and smiling. He makes my day and a lot of other bus drivers could be doing with taking a leaf out of Andy’s book.”

Nicole McMullen posted: “This guy is the cheeriest driver around! So courteous on the road too. Well deserved Andy!”

Susan Lawrie also approved of Andy’s success: “Well done, you are amazing. If there were a lot like you, it would be much better.”

Lyndsay Bett added: “My gran, who is 90, always says he’s the friendliest bus driver.”

Currying less favour with our Facebook readers, though, was the Royal Mail and its claims Lanarkshire residents are among the most likely to see their post delivered on time, with 93.9 per cent of first-class post in the ML area delivered within a day in 2016-17.

Jacqueline Anne claimed: “My neighbour came up to me few weeks back with a bundle of mail addressed to me he found outside under a rock! And one of them was meant to have been signed for!”

Joe Connelly said: “It’s the worst service. Sometimes our mail comes when we are at our dinner at 4.30-5pm. Shocking.”

Dawn Mitchell added: “Post doesn’t come until 3pm, so don’t think this is first class!”
