Sir Sean Connery’s top of favourite actors poll
Inspired by David Hayman’s visit to applaud the charity work of staff and customers at Tesco in Coatbridge, the Advertiser asked shoppers to name their favourite Scottish actors.
Drumpellier resident May Smith went for a popular choice, choosing an Oscar winner and Scotland’s very own James Bond.
She said:“Sir Sean Connery is my favourite – I think he’s excellent and just think he’s a lovely man.
“I’ve loved him in everything he’s played and enjoy all his films.”
Caldercruix man Tom Cupples agreed, saying:“It’s got to be Sean.
“His voice is the best thing. I especially like the accent – it’s educated Scots and he just sounds great.
“I’m actually not a huge Bond fan and liked him better in other things; I especially like him in the film A Bridge Too Far.”
His wife Jean had a different choice, saying: “I really like Robert Carlyle.
“I like him as an actor because he can play all sorts of roles, whether funny characters or straight parts.”
Coatbridge worker Margaret Anderson chose Tom Conti as her favourite, saying:“I just like him; it must be the dark hair and good looks!”
As for David Hayman himself, he chose two actors on whom to pour praise. He said:“Kate Dickie is brilliant.
“We worked together on Wasted, and she was wonderful and had real integrity; and she was stunning in Red Road.
“Kathryn Howden is the best stage actress in Scotland.
“I cast her in a theatre production of The Slab Boys and she stole the show.”
