Group set for stage version of the Dolly Parton film

Monklands Light Opera members will channel their inner Dolly Partons for their next big production.
The all-singing, all-dancing squad’s take on hit 9 to 5 comes to the stage at Airdrie’s Ebenezer Congregational Church hall on November 9-11 – with tickets up for grabs now.
Based on the 1980 movie starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as three frustrated working women living out their fantasies of getting even with their boss, the Broadway musical features iconic tunes from Parton’s score, nominated for Oscar, Tony and Grammy Awards.
These include Backwoods Barbie, Heart to Hart and the titular song, with Monklands Light Opera determined to do Parton proud and Shine Like the Sun as they belt out their renditions of the famous tunes.
The plot sees the lead trio kidnap their unruly employer and hold him hostage while they find a way to blackmail him.
It will closely follow the story of the hit movie, with audiences guaranteed many a laugh – and to be tapping their toes along to all of the musical hits – when the production hits the stage next month.
A spokesperson for the Monklands Light Opera told the Advertiser: “The 9 to 5 production follows on from our recent shows Little Shop of Horrors, Shout! The Mod Musical and Copacabana, and we’re determined to deliver another knockout performance.
“Everyone involved with the Light Opera has really enjoyed their time with the group and it’s a perfect environment for people to hone their dramatic and musical skills.
“Audiences are always full of fantastic feedback after our shows and it’s a real pleasure to provide them with such well- received entertainment.”
