W/D slip away at Strath

-

Strathaven ran out deserved victors over Waysiders/Drumpellier with a 37-5 win.

Straight from the kick-off Strathaven were camped in W/D’s 22 and were awarded a penalty in front of the posts.

Luckily for the visitors the kicker sliced it wide. It was a momentary let-off as from the restart Strathaven gathered the ball and ran through some inept attempts at tackling to score near the posts.

A few minutes later and more indiscipline cost the Langloan men possession and territory. Strathaven stretched their lead to 13-0 with barely 20 minutes on the clock.

Worse was to come and the home side ran in a further two tries before the break to seal the bonus point.

Given the shots at goal that were missed, W/D were lucky to be going in at the break 25-0 down.

The second half was much of the same with W/D struggling to get out of their own half, however it wasn’t until the 60th minute that Strathaven stretched their lead even further to 30-0.

With 10 minutes to go, W/D gave a senior debut to 17-year-old Ali Peat, who made an immediate impact with a decent run from his first touch of the ball that could have easily resulted in a try if it wasn’t for the covering defence forcing him out of play.

With five minutes to go W/D skipper Matty Coey finally managed to barge over for the score his all-round play deserved.

Unfortunately though a breakaway try in the last minute allowed Strathaven to score in the corner.
