Brewing up a storm to help cancer charity

Five-figure sum total raised by inspirational pensioners

A kind-hearted group of Airdrie senior citizens have been praised for their outstanding fundraising by a representative from a cancer charity.

The inspirational team of pensioners from the Milton Court sheltered housing complex brewed up a storm at its latest annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity’s area fundraising manager, Angela McCormack, visited the group in recognition of their amazing fundraising efforts.

Over the past 16 years, the spectacular seniors’ group have got together to raise a whopping £22,150.

The fantastic five- figure sum has been collected through coffee mornings, Christmas raffles, teddy bear’s birthday events, and the generosity of donations from members of the local community and sales of their delicious, and hugely popular, homemade produce.

A delighted Angela told the Advertiser: “It’s phenomenal; Milton Court have been staunch supporters of ours since 2001.

“They bring the community together and I wanted to recognise their contributions.

“They are lovely people and this money will help those in the community with cancer to live their lives, and will go towards providing nurses and financial help.”

A spokesperson for the Milton Court fundraisers added: “People are very supportive and all the gifts are donated.

“On behalf of the tenants’ and residents’ association, I would like to thank everyone who came along, donated items and contributed in any way to our latest coffee morning.

“It’s a true thrill for us all to see our overall fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support reach as high a figure as £22,150.”
