Actor-singer turns his hand to comedy

- Ian Bunting

Game-for-a-laugh Scott Stewart is bringing a healthy dose of humour to help people chase away the winter blues.

The actor and musician, from Burnfoot, has released a series of comedy sketches online that have been “very warmly received”.

Scott decided to turn his hand to comedy due to his love of all things funny and is determined to treat his fans to further gags and sketches in the future.

The 24- year- old performer told the Advertiser: “Over the last few weeks I’ve released a few comedy sketches online which have been very warmly received.

“I love to make people laugh and it’s another string to my bow to go alongside the acting and singing.

“I’ve always been a fan of comedy in all its guises and watch on in awe when some of the top performers, like Kevin Bridges and Frankie Boyle, are on the TV.

“I am going to be releasing two more comedy sketches before the year is out, and hope this can be a launch pad for further projects going forward.

“Fortunately, the comedy sketches promote themselves because everyone loves a bit of comedy, especially if the subjects are relatable.”

Scott has also refused to be downhearted over the delay of the release of his three-part documentary Man Up.

As previously reported in the Advertiser, the project involved Scott interviewing people on the street to get their opinions on men’s mental health issues, along with conversations with two men suffering from depression and counselling coaches.

Scott had planned to release the first episode of Man Up last month, but has decided to take more time to properly promote his documentary.

He explained: “Man Up is all filmed and completed but I am taking a step back to weigh up the right time to release a trailer, and then the documentary itself.

“I feel like the documentary requires a bit more promotion, so I’m looking into seeing what ways it can be plugged outside of the internet as I don’t want it to be something that comes out and is then forgotten about a month later.

“Ideally I’d like it to be something that people reference in years to come and make a positive impact on those suffering from mental health issues, or those who know someone experiencing them.”

Scott added: “I wanted to take this project on because it is evident that men do not open up enough about their problems, either big or small.

“Being a man these days seems like it did back when cavemen were about and I want to try and get away from those beliefs.”

Next year is set to be a busy time for Scott, with a series of projects in the pipeline for the versatile performer.

He said: “I have got so much content and projects that are already filmed and edited and just waiting to be released.

“The first few months of 2018 are going to be pretty hectic, but I can’t wait to share more of my work with others.

“It can be quite tiring putting everything together, but it’s really exciting and the amount of fun I’ve had doing these projects make it all worthwhile.”
