Water big achievement by globetrotter Kirstin
Her trip to South Africa
A Clarkston woman has been selected as just one of three UK representatives who will head to South Africa next week for a international industry conference.
Kirstin Watt, an asset planner with Scottish Water, has been chosen to attend the four- day gathering of International Young Water Professionals in Cape Town.
Described as “one of Scottish Water’s leading young employees”, the 25- year- old was this year named as the Institute of Water’s rising star.
The international conference has the theme of “building leaders and making impact”; and Kirstin said: “Forums of this nature, where difficult yet necessary conversations are facilitated, are critical in order to safeguard the service that we provide.
“I’m looking forward to representing the UK water industry and reinvesting my learning on my return; and I’d like to thank the Institute of Water and International Water Association’s young water professionals UK network for selecting me, as well as Scottish Water for allowing me to make the most of this experience.
“There were only three of us selected from 28 applicants and, as the only one from Scotland, I feel very privileged to be attending and look forward to sharing my experiences when I get back.”
Kirstin’s trip will include water industry site visits in the Cape Town area; while she will also have the chance to visit Robben Island and the Cape of Good Hope.
The former school captain at Caldervale High studied geography at Glasgow University, graduating in 2014 with first-class honours.
She then joined Scottish Water and completed its graduate scheme last year; she is also a member of the Institute of Water’s committee in Scotland, helping to organise its events and activities.
