Santa’s dashing round Monklands

Santa’s travels across Monklands are now well underway for 2017 – with the much-loved sleigh heading out around Airdrie and Coatbridge on three more dates this week.

The sleigh will be at Greggs/ Domino’s at High Street in Airdrie tomorrow evening, from 6.05pm to 6.25pm, before heading on to the Golfhill and Glenmavis areas.

Sunday’s schedule takes the sleigh to Whifflet shopping precinct from 3.10pm to 3.40pm, Pritchel Way and Helve Place at Calderwood Village, Kirkshaws Road, Rose Gardens, Mackinnon Mills, Old Monkland Road area, Strawberry Fields, Bishopburn/Luggiebank, and Victoria Park.

Next Tuesday, December 12 sees the sleigh return to Greggs/ Domino’s in Airdrie for another 6.05pm to 6.25pm static point, and it will then move on to Chapelside and the Clarkston Primary area.

The annual Santa’s sleigh tour is run by volunteers from local good cause XACT, the successor organisati­on to the former Airdrie and Coatbridge Round Table.

Its chair, Norbert Grant, said:“All the members wanted to ensure that this great Monklands tradition would continue. It’s the start of Christmas for us and it’s a truly magical time.”

The sleigh brings Christmas cheer to thousands of households around Airdrie and Coatbridge each Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday until December 21, with midweek outings starting from 5.30pm and Sunday sleigh routes from 2.30pm.

Routes will be updated on the group’s Facebook page, Xact Santa; and any organisati­ons who would like to volunteer to help with one of the sleigh dates can call 07789 540609.

Forthcomin­g routes for the final week of the sleigh tour are – Thursday December 14: Carnbroe. Sunday, December 17: Tesco Airdrie (3.10pm to 3.45pm), Ewart Drive, Brennan Crescent, Ayr Drive, Monkland Estate, Monks Glen, Chapelhall. Tuesday, December 19: Cairnhill. Thursday, December 21: Dykehead Crescent, The Rushes, Ferguson Way, Linkwood and Balbair Roads, Broompark and Strathnave­r Crescents.
