Top graduates’achievements
Students from New College Lanarkshire celebrated their successes at the institution’s 2017 graduation ceremonies.
Learners completing courses at HNC level and above attended the events at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow and received their awards from college principal Martin McGuire.
The presentations included honouring individual outstanding achievements – with Coatbridge campus dental nursing student Caitlin Lawson, 21, being honoured for earning the highest graded unit mark across the college with an engraved SQA trophy, plus a certificate and £50 book token.
Special awards were also presented at the two ceremonies to Julianna Taggart for her graded unit, college WorldSkills competitor Betsy Crosbie, and outstanding achievement award winners Laura Baird, Ursula Manning, Lisa Morley and Julie Ann Mullen.
Mr McGuire said: “Our annual awards ceremonies are the pinnacle of the academic year, celebrating everything that our students have achieved during their time at New College Lanarkshire.
“It was a privilege to meet each and every student who has worked so hard to reach this prestigious stage in their career path.
“It’s a special occasion for our staff also to see how far their students have come, and for family and friends to join in a celebration of their achievement.
“For many students, this award will be part of a continuing educational process and will perhaps be an important first step in a future path of lifelong learning.
“I wish all those who have completed their studies at New College Lanarkshire the greatest success for the future, and I’m confident that the vocational qualification achieved will help shape the future workforce.”
The ceremonies were attended by the college’s first Fellow, prominent businessman Boyd Tunnock, plus local politicians and regional college board representatives; and included a live performance from popular student band The Kahoots.
