Children’s Christmas events

Aladdin is this year’s children’s committee pantomime, for youngsters aged six to 16. It will take place in the social club next Saturday, December 16, with doors opening at 5.30pm for a 6pm start. A party for youngsters aged under six will be held at the same venue on Monday, December 18, from 7pm to 9.30pm; applicatio­n forms should now have been returned. Check the club’s noticeboar­d for further informatio­n.

Councillor’s surgery

by Airdrie North representa­tive Sophia Coyle will take place in the community hall next Wednesday, December 13, from 6pm to 6.30pm. Councillor Coyle has a collection of Christmas presents for boys and girls and anyone who would like to receive a gift can contact her on, or before, this date; presents will be delivered before December 20.

Back Brae gospel hall

The breaking of the bread takes place on Sundays at 11am; Sunday school runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. Evening gospel meetings are held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Social club

activities this week include bingo on Sunday night, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker is drawn at 8.25pm on Sundays, with tickets priced £1 on sale from committee members and bar staff throughout the week. For more details, see the club notice board.

Drop-in cafe

Is now closed until the new year.

Da Capo music group

meets on Mondays from 6pm to 9pm, in the Orange hall on Baillies Lane in Airdrie. Anyone who would like to play the orchestral flute or drums is welcome to attend. For more details, contact John on 07525 064303.

Baillies Lane marching band

rehearses in the social club on Tuesdays from 7pm to 9pm. New flute and drum learners are welcome to attend; call John on 07525 064303 for further details.

Stanrigg miners’ memorial

is open to all who wish to visit, and transport can be arranged by calling 01236 830637. July 9 2018 will be the 100th anniversar­y of the disaster, in which 19 miners lost their lives; anyone who would like to commemorat­e the anniversar­y can also call the same number.

Retired miners

The Christmas dinner for retired miners will take place on Sunday, December 17 in Auchengeic­h Miners Club, Moodiesbur­n. Doors open 7pm, meal will be served at 7.30pm.
