Top two will battle out six man final Old rivals set to meet again

- Staff Reporter

The top two in the Airdrie and District Darts League will battle it out in the BC Travel six-man final.

On an evening that produced few surprises it will be the old rivals of Carsons and The Workmen’s B that are set to meet in the decider.

Carsons’ first match on the night was against the Workmen’s B second string, and they pushed the current champions all the way.

They twice went in front in the best of 11-leg match.

However, wasted doubles from the likes of John Hunter and Tommy Ferguson saw their chance drift away and although they eventually lost 5- 3 they will feel they should have done better.

In their next match Carsons took on The Post knowing that they would have to improve to get to the final.

Carsons took the faired better in the three pairs games before Ernie Brown put Carsons 4- 2 ahead with a 17-dart win.

Derek Cunningham then lost a good game to Tommy Rodman to reduce the gap further but a 14dart win for Graham Anderson put Carsons through to the final.

The Workmen’s B on the other hand were in the top half of the draw and had an extra game to play.

First up were the Bank Social Club, who were no match for their Airdrie rivals.

Next up were The Eagle, who had their moments with Tommy Slaven notching a good win and the game went to the latter stages with the Workies running out 5-3 winners.

Standing in the way of a place in the final were The Clansman.

Davie Cunningham and Stevie Carson took the first leg while before Alex McPheat and Wullie Smith pulled one back for the Caldercruix team.

Gerry Brown and Scott Gibb gave the Workmen the edge going into the singles games.

They piled on the pressure and were to strong in the end to reach the final winning 5-1.

There is still a few months to wait to the decider but it should be worth waiting for with two strong teams, featuring the likes of Cameron Menzies still to come in for Carsons and Gary Stone for the B team. FIXTURES for Monday, December 11:

Workmen’s B v Bank Social Club, Carsons v The West End, The Barnyard v The Swan, The Eagle v Wilson Arms, The Post v Boar’s Head, The Clansman v Workmen’s A.
