Library’s activities list
Airdrie Library is relaunching its popular ’New Tricks’ programme with a six-week calendar of activities, talks and film.
Sessions run each Wednesday afternoon for six weeks and aim to provide a taster of the regular events at the Wellwynd venue, allowing adults to discover new pastimes and hobbies.
Local author Gerard Grant will kick off the programme with a nostalgic talk about Airdrie of yesteryear at the first session next week, February 21.
The Advertiser told last year how the 79-yearold had written an autobiography sharing his memories of growing up in Airdrie and Calderbank, which was officially launched at Airdrie library in November.
Macmillan Cancer Support will then run a “gentle movement” class the following week, based on the Chinese practice Chi Gung which aligns “breathing, physical activity, mental and spiritual awareness” and can be done seated or standing.
The remaining sessions are playing and reminiscing over childhood games on March 7; story, chat and song based on steamboat memories and the Clyde Puffers on March 14; spring crafts on March 21; and a singalong movie matinee with a showing of Irving Berlin’s classic musical Easter Parade on March 28.
All sessions take place from 2pm to 4pm; tickets cost £2 per session or £10 for all 10 weeks and include refreshments, and are available from the library.
