Labour of love at hospice complete
Keys to refurbished building handed over
Staff at St Andrew’s Hospice will be receiving the keys to their refurbished building on Monday.
Main contractors CCG will hand the renovated Henderson Street property back to hospice representatives following the £9 million upgrade, with tours then taking place for members of the public the following week.
Patients are then to be transferred back from their temporary base at Wester Moffat Hospital from early April – moving back to an upgraded hospice which now has 21 single and three shared rooms, all ensuite and with improved lighting, heating and fixtures.
The hospice’s capital appeal team are continuing their fundraising with the new Homecoming campaign; asking supporters to hold an event such as a coffee morning or afternoon tea to raise funds, or to text ROOM18 £5 to 70070 to donate £5 to the appeal.
Hospice chief executive Bruce High said: “While our capital appeal continues, I’m delighted that the end of the building part of our project is now in sight.
“I’d like to thank our supporters and donors – and our contractors for the quality of their workmanship and dedication to getting this project finished on time, despite the inevitable glitches and recent bad weather.
“For all these teams, this has been more than simply another job; many have a personal connection with St Andrew’s so this has been a labour of love which shows in the quality of the finished building.”
Mr High added: “We’d also like to thank NHS Lanarkshire for the use of their premises at Wester Moffat Hospital for the past 15 months, which has allowed us to continue to provide care during this refurbishment.
“St Andrew’s Hospice has a long, proud history of caring for the people of Lanarkshire, and its staff have always given excellent, compassionate, person- centred care that respects patients’ dignity.
“We are delighted that we’re now in a position, through the generosity of those who have contributed to our capital appeal, to be able to offer an environment that matches the care that we provide.”
Hour-long tours for members of the public will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, March 28 and 29; running at 11am, 12 noon, 4pm and 5pm each day, with an additional tour at 10am on the Thursday.
