Fine week for group
Parkinson’s awareness
From tulips and games to tea with an MP, it’s fair to say the Parkinson’s SelfHelp Group ( North Lanarkshire) were in fine fettle as they marked a nationwide initiative.
Members of the Airdriebased organisation took part in a series of events during Parkinson’s awareness week.
Tulip tea gatherings were held at its Wellwynd headquart e r s, wi t h members inviting along Airdrie MP Neil Gray for a brew and a blether.
Visitors to the centre also included special guests Amanda and Amy Beers, family members of the group’s beloved late vice-chair Harry Hinson.
Competitive juices then flowed as the Airdrie team went head-to-head with their Cumbernauld and Motherwell counterparts during an awareness games day held in Coatbridge’s Gartsherrie bowling club.
The group also ran daily information desks at Morrisons in Airdrie and Tesco Coatbridge to spread awareness of support for people with Parkinson’s.
The Airdrie group’s centre co-ordinator, Ruby Armstrong, said: “All of our members had a ball during the Parkinson’s awareness week events.
“There was a lot of fun to be had, but they also helped get the message across that there is plenty of help out there for people with Parkinson’s.
“This is always one of the group’s most anticipated weeks in the calendar and it was a hugely successful initiative.”
