A committed clean-up crew have received a welcome three-figure boost to their efforts to keep Kirkwood tidy.

As part of its dedication to the people of Bargeddie, Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has donated £500 to the fundraising efforts of the Kirkwood community council’s polish up of the Luggie Walkway next month.

Along with this generous cash injection, up to eight members of Taylor Wimpey’s team will roll up their sleeves to join the local community event that aims to “clear up and rejuvenate the walkway”, which runs from near the company’s Burnside View sales information centre to the Kirkwood Sports Barn.

Kirkwood community council is encouraging as many people as possible to join them from 10am on June 2 and 3 to help with the clean-up effort.

Volunteers will be provided with the appropriate safety equipment to complete the tasks of litter picking, grass clearing and general tidying of the area.

There will also be some entertainment taking place throughout each day to ensure a fun environment for everyone involved.

Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, told the Advertiser: “It is great to be able to lend this offer of support to such a wonderful community effort.

“Every year we build new homes and communities that people want to live in, and we’re passionate about playing our part in the local communities around our developments.

“The Kirkwood community council initiative to clean-up the Luggie Walkway gives members of our team the chance to offer their personal time to support this event; and our cash boost will go some way to providing additional planting for the area.”

The Kirkwood community regularly uses the Luggie Walkway – but it has become neglected over the last few years.

However, with support from residents in the area, and various organisations,
