Higgins to hang up boots
Sean Higgins hopes to continue his involvement with youth coaching at Albion Rovers after announcing his retirement from professional and semi- professional football.
The former Dundee, Falkirk and Clyde forward revealed he was giving up the game last week but still hoped to remain at Cliftonhill in a coaching capacity – which he was active in throughout last season.
Rovers squad and management remain in limbo following their relegation to League Two, but the 33-yearold hopes to be back next term.
He told the Advertiser: “Obviously the contracts are up just now but I really enjoy youth coaching.
“I feel like it has been going well and has moved along since I came in so hopefully I get the chance .”
Higgins says he is proud to have played in all divisions in Scotland, played at the top grounds around the country – including scoring at Ibrox – and been involved in a Scottish Cup semi-final with Falkirk. He hopes to be remembered as a hardworking player.
“It’s still raw just now but when I look back on my career in a few years I think I’ll be happy,” he continued.
“There has been loads of highlights, and since I announced it I’ve really been overwhelmed by the response from fans and players.
“No matter where I’ve been and a whatever level I’ve always tried to give my all.”
