Guitar art is a dead ringer for music icon

Meat Loaf meeting

- Ian Bunting

Rock and roll dreams came true for Airdrie artist David McDonagh when he got to share his work with the legendary Meat Loaf.

David’s portrait of the musician, fittingly emblazoned on a guitar, was a dead ringer for the 70-yearold Texan who autographed David’s stunning masterpiece.

Thirty-two-year-old David was like a bat out of hell as he rushed to meet one of his musical idols at the London Film and Comic Con.

David proudly presented Meat Loaf with the guitar during the singer, songwriter and actor’s meet-and-greet panel at the fan convention.

And it was paradise by the autograph table as Meat Loaf waxed lyrical about the quality of David’s work.

Gartlea man David revealed: “When I showed Meat Loaf the guitar he said, ‘cool’; and then I asked him if he liked it and he responded, ‘what’s not to like?’

“He then asked me if I wanted him to play the guitar and he strummed a few notes on it.

“There was then a funny moment when he heard some jazz music playing and he asked, ‘what the hell is that?

“Meat Loaf was such a cool guy; he was really nice and to hear him say he liked my work was very humbling as he’s such a legend in the music industry.

“I even got my hands on a special Meat Loaf cup and the whole Film and Comic Con experience was top class.”

David, who runs Lewy L Paintings and does comic book and pop art and portraits, added: “I’ve met some top stars from movies, music and football but I still get such a buzz when they praise my art.

“It’s a big boost to me and the business.”
