Mark and Netflix are on the same page

New comic approved

- Ian Bunting

Mark Millar’s lucrative deal with Netflix continues to pay dividends as the streaming giants gave a second comic book penned by the Coatbridge native the green light.

Prodigy will tell the story of Edison Crane – who Mark has dubbed “by far the best character he’s created” – the “world’s smartest man”, who becomes “the go-to guy for governments around the world when a problem arises they just can’t handle”.

It is due to hit stores, and land online, in December and follows on from Mark’s other Netflixendorsed comic The Magic Order, which became the biggest selling new comic book franchise in nearly 20 years when it was released earlier this summer.

A delighted Mark said: “I gave myself a challenge when I created Prodigy.

“I wanted to write the smartest thing I’ve ever written and, at the same time, top any action setpieces I’ve ever managed in the past; and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how this has turned out.

“Edison Crane is by far the best character I’ve created in my career and I’m delighted that my genius friend Rafa Albuquerque is drawing the comic book side of all this; he’s really one of the best artists in the world.

“I can’t wait to share this with everyone. This really is a beaut and we’re incredibly proud of it.”

Artist Rafael Albuquerque ( Batman, American Vampire) previously worked with Mark on the popular comic book Huck and their latest collaboration is already causing a stir in industry circles.

The announcement of Prodigy’s release comes a month after Netflix gave the go-ahead for two series and three movies based on Mark’s work as part of a TV-film universe which will encompass adaptations of some of Mark’s most iconic creations.
