Jobs boost as Mears take on care workers

-

Mears’ Coatbridge branch has announced 10 new jobs for care workers in the town.

The organisation provides care to the elderly and those with disabilities to enable them to live independently in their own homes.

The Coatbridge branch provides care to 250 people across the town, with a team of 110 care workers and support staff.

Local manager Nyree Doyle said: “Due to an increased demand for our services from the local authority, we have 10 new jobs for care workers to be based in Coatbridge.

“We have more people who need our help to remain living independently in their own homes.”

Care workers enjoy a flexible working pattern, from parttime to full- time, and shift work enables a more flexible life if they have other family responsibilities and personal interests.

Nyree added: “We want to keep people living in their own homes for as long as is practically possible.

“Everyone has their part to play in this – not just our care at home workers – with family members providing support and neighbours too.

“So many people can be socially isolated, and the only person they might see in a day is their care worker, so I would urge friends, family and neighbours to play their part in this.

“Often, our new recruits have come from a completely different working environment – for example from retail or manufacturing – recognising that this is a job involving people and one that gives a high level of job satisfaction.

“Also having cared for a friend or family member who has been poorly, has helped some of our team members recognise they have skills in caring for someone and supporting their independent living.”

Nyree continued: “But it’s not just about providing essential daily care, but also about companionship.

“For some people our carers may be the only person they see in a day and that companionship, as well as providing vital services and personal support, is equally important.”

Over 40,000 people per week across the UK benefit from Mears’ flexible service to support people’s different needs.

Services include respite care, re-enablement care following an episode of illness or stay in hospital, domiciliary care for day to day domestic and personal support, live- in 24 hour care as well as palliative care.
