Local singer to steel the show

-

Pete MacLeod will show plenty of metal when he performs in the Steel City later this year.

The singer-songwriter, from Coatbridge, has announced a gig at the Record Junkee in Sheffield on November 16.

It will mark a return to the musical venue for Pete after he opened for The Happy Mondays there in 2016.

Pete told the Advertiser:“I’m really looking forward to playing in Sheffield again.

“It’s a great city, and venue, with people who really love their music and create a great atmosphere.

“The last time I was at the Record Junkee was in support of The Happy Mondays, which was superb; but it will be nice to be back with my own gig.”

November will be a hectic month for Pete as he has also been added to the bill of one of Britain’s biggest music festivals.

The Kirkwood singer will perform at the Shiiine On Weekender in Minehead, joining the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Shed Seven and Orbital at the extravaganza.

Pete said:“I have supported and toured with both Ocean Colour Scene and Shed Seven, with Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Cradock joining my acoustic tour last year.

“Hopefully I can catch up with the guys at the Shiiine On Weekender.

“I will also be playing a gig in London next month; it’s a really busy time just now and I am loving it.”

The exciting new gigs come hot on the heels of Pete’s worldwide distribution deal for his upcoming third album.

The link-up with independent company Membran Media Group, who count Joss Stone and Aimee Mann among its other musical artists, also includes label services.

Pete was originally planning to release Walk to the Light – due to hit stores on September 28 – on his own label but is thrilled to hand over distribution responsibilities.

He said:“It was a surprise when I got a few companies contacting me to either licence the album or distribute the LP.

“It’s been time-consuming putting everything in place as I’ve been doing it all on my own, so this is a really welcome bonus for the new album.

“I’ve been going backwards and forwards with a few meetings and emails and my gut instincts were that this was the right deal for me.”

Doors open at Pete’s Sheffield gig at 7.30pm for an 8pm start and tickets, costing £8, are available now from www.seetickets.com/event/ pete-macleod/ record-junkee/1256448
