Bryson set for a group trek along Benachally
Monklands Ramblers have three walks coming up within the next fortnight.
First up are the two walks that will take place this weekend.
On Saturday, Douglas Bryson will lead a group on a long trek along Benachally hill.
It’s an early start, with a pick-up in Coatbridge at 8.45am.
The walk is eight miles and is graded at a B+ level.
The hill, which is in Perthshire, is nearly 1600ft high.
On the same day, Alan Russell will lead his group on an even longer and more difficult walk.
The nine-mile effort, rated as B in difficulty, will see the group head around Dunkeld Circular.
The walk is described as a fine setting on the banks of the Tay, Scotland’s grandest river, clothed with magnificent woodlands.
Nearby is the Loch of Lowes with its famous ospreys.
If you wish to book a place on either of these walks, contact Douglas on 0141 778 4892 or email im_douglas. bryson@ntlworld.com.
On Wednesday, September 12, the group will take on a midweek walk.
This time, David Dunn is due to lead the group on a smaller six-mile ramble.
It is also an easier trek, graded at a C level in comparison to the two mentioned above.
The walk will begin at Strathclyde Park and head to Barons Haugh and back.
The meeting point will be at Strathclyde Park visitor centre at 12 noon.
The walk will take in the Japanese garden and Convenanters Oak – the oldest living thing in Lanarkshire.
There are good paths throughout most of the route.
