Airdrie throw away three points

-

Airdrieonians .. 3 Raith Rovers .. 4 Airdrie let a two-goal lead slip in the dying minutes on Saturday as exDiamond Liam Buchanan came back to haunt his former employers with a hat-trick.

Airdrie were 3-1 up heading into the 88th minute thanks to a double from Joao Vitoria and another from Dale Carrick.

The home side fully deserved their strong lead after dominating the match.

Vitoria netted the first with only seven minutes on the clock.

The attacker collected a crossfield pass before racing towards the penalty area and cutting in on his right foot to fire into the bottom corner.

Vitoria was at it again shortly afterwards when he cut the ball back from the by-line with tremendous precision to allow Dale Carrick to tap-in.

Liam Buchanan pulled one back after he latched on to a loose Ryan Conroy backpass.

Raith were then reduced to ten men when Iain Davidson headbutted Grant Gallagher, and Airdrie looked to have put the game to bed shortly afterwards when Vitoria powered home off the crossbar.

Raith reduced the deficit with three minutes of the 90 to play when Buchanan slotted home after Jonathan Page misjudged the flight of the ball.

With the game in stoppage time, Kevin Nisbet rifled home a free-kick from the edge of the area to snatch what looked like a point, before Buchanan made it three following a box stramash.
