Only one option for Rovers

- Andrew Bargh

Albion Rovers boss John Brogan says his team only have one option against Berwick Rangers this weekend - win.

Goalless Rovers are still without a point this season after a 2- 0 defeat against Queen’s Park on Saturday.

Two first-half goals sunk Rovers, who rarely threatened going forward.

But Brogan isn’t keen to dwell on any negatives and believes there’s no alternative to victory against Berwick at the weekend.

He told the Advertiser: “It was a very poor first half and we condeded two poor goals.

“It was a poor clearance that led to their first goal.

“Scott Forrester doesn’t even kick it 20 yards and to be honest Daniel Potts should probably keep out the shot.

“For the second, they’ve broken on us and the deflection takes it in.

“Barry Eley getting sent off at the start of the second half killed the game and it was damage limitation after that.

“It was a very hard task and John Cunningham was left up-top himself.

“I can have no complaints about the red card.

“I thought Sean Fagan and Bryan Wharton were exceptional together in defence after the changes.

“We now move on to the Berwick game on Saturday and it is an absolute must-win.

“It’s a massive game; no ifs, buts or maybes.

“We have to beat Berwick and move on from there.

“There are a couple of teams in similar positions to us which is fortunate.

“I can’t guarantee we’ll win on Saturday but I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t.

“We were better in our last home game against Elgin and we want to kick on from there.”

Brogan was quick to praise the returning Gary Fisher, who has missed game time recently after suffering a head knock earlier in the season.

He continued:“Gary was excellent when we went down to 10 men and really stood up to the challenge.

“He led by example, dug in and showed the commitment necessary.

“We’ve been missing him and now that his fitness is back we’ll get the benefit of having him in the team.”

Although he feels his defensive players are starting to gel, Brogan revealed he is still concerned by his team’s lack of conviction going forward.

He said:“Of course I’m worried about the lack of goals.

“We do so many drills at training and practice constantly.

“We just need the rub of the green and will continue to work away on that.

“Saturday can’t come quickly enough as we’re desperate to put that right.

“I‘m feeling positive we can turn this run of form around.

“I understand the fans’ frustration but stick with us.

“We’ll put an end to this.”
